R22 refrigerant, also known as HCFC-22, is a hydrochlorofluorocarbon refrigerant that has been widely used in air conditioning and refrigeration systems for many years. It is primarily used in residential and commercial HVAC systems, as well as in industrial refrigeration applications. R22 is used in a closed loop system to cool and dehumidify the air inside buildings, as well as in refrigeration systems to keep food and other perishable items at a consistent, cool temperature. However, due to its contribution to ozone depletion, many countries are phasing out the use of R22.
